Overall, I actually enjoyed parts of this book tremendously. The main fictional literary characters of Christabel Lamott and R.H. Ash as well as the modern characters of Maude and Roland were interesting and complex. Their stories kept me coming back. What slowed me down and what I found less compelling were the chapters (sometimes) and excerpts of fictional literary criticism about the fictional literary characters. A feminist critic of the landscapes in Christabel Lamott's poetry did not keep me interested, but I am very ready to admit that this a personal bias.
